Playlist DJ FAQ
How to use Playlist DJ »
Problem running Playlist DJ on N97 after firmware update v2.0?
Workaround: Please change your theme to either:
- Nseries 1 (blue theme) or
- Nseries 2 (black theme)
when using PlayList DJ. Both Nseries 1 and Nseries 2 are standard Nokia themes. Playlist DJ does not work with the default Nseries 3 theme. Fix will be forthcoming.
Main Menu -> Settings -> Themes -> General -> Nseries 2
How do I find the app after downloading it to my Nokia 5800?
You find the application under the Music Folder in the Main Menu
Main Menu -> Music Folder -> Playlist DJ
What is Playlist DJ?
Playlist DJ uses our Moodagent software – so it is third-generation music recommendations. It excels because human and artificial intelligence (AI) can work together to great effect. It is a breakthrough tool in creating playlists.
What is AI?
AI stands for Artificial Intelligence. In the case of Playlist DJ, it simply means that the system is getting better all the time, learning and evolving.
What is profiling?
A: When Playlist DJ (or its Moodagent software) goes to work, massive signal processing analysis creates extremely granular ordered information sets on music tracks that can then be clustered or compared in any number of ways (e.g. by mood, genre, instrument, beat, sound, decade, etc). So every track it encounters has a profile, and because of that you are able to create playlists based on a given mood or other variable. If Playlist DJ does not know your music, it will deep profile the track and get to know it.
What, then, is deep profiling?
Deep profiling is profiling of music that is not recognized by Playlist DJ. If Playlist DJ finds unknown music, it will look deeply at the music file and get to know it. At present we can only deep profile files in the preferred Nokia format, MP3 (not WMA, AAC, M4A or other music files due to the Nokia phone operating system).
What makes deep profiling so smart is that after you have profiled an unknown track, the profile for this track will be available not only to you, but all users of Playlist DJ.
Why can’t I use all the music on the phone?
Due to limitations in the OS we can only deep profile MP3 tracks at the moment.
Can I profile my own music made in, for example, Garage Band or Pro Tools?
Yes, but only if it is converted to MP3. Playlist DJ will deep profile your track, and it will be part of the rest of your collection and appear in the playlists.
Will Playlist DJ compress my music library, making the quality of my music super bad?
No, Playlist DJ would never spoil your library like that.
Why does Playlist DJ say no songs profiled yet when I have a lot of music on my phone?
Because it hasn’t been able to profile your music yet. Make sure that you are connected to the Internet when you launch Playlist DJ and that you haven’t accidentally selected to stop profiling in the music profiling window. If you have stopped profiling just select Start and the profiling of music will continue.
Do I need to be on the Internet to profile and run Playlist DJ?
Yes for profiling and no for running. We need the Internet to connect your music library to our data cloud in the sky. Once your music has been profiled you can run Playlist DJ without access to the Internet.
What does it cost to be on the Internet to run Playlist DJ?
The cost is determined by your provider – so their normal charges apply. WLAN is, of course, free and the fastest way to profile your library.
Is the information in my phone safe when connecting to your servers?
Yes, it is always safe.
Why will it not play my playlists?
Make sure you refreshed your library in the music player when you added music to the phone?
Can I save the killer playlist I made?
Yes. Select Save next to the search button, enter your desired playlist name, and your playlist is saved for posterity.
Where do I find my saved playlist?
You can find your saved playlist in the music player next to your other playlists.
Is there another way of creating playlists, other than moving the sliders?
Yes, you can press the Search button and choose, for example, an artist and then select a song. Playlist DJ will then generate a playlist for you.
I moved the slider for tempo all the way up, but Playlist DJ does not return with any fast songs?
Make sure that you have some fast tracks in your collection.
What do the icons mean?
Click on Options and choose ”help”. A help-screen will appear, and explain what each icon is.
Do all the cool kids have Playlist DJ?
Yes, all the cool kids, and their uncles, have Playlist DJ.
Is this some kind of magic?
No. And just to be sure, we called the experts on ‘a kind of magic’ – Queen. This is the culmination of eight years of painstaking work, human musical knowledge and amazing AI technology.
Is this similar to Skynet in Terminator?
Not really. Skynet is fictional. Playlist DJ is real.
