Moodagent FAQ

I set the sliders and got a playlist where some of the songs don’t match my slider settings very well. What’s up?
Moodagent playlists are  made up of the songs from your collection that most closely match the combination of all five sliders. The problem may be that you don’t have many songs that fit the combination of slider settings. Try different combinations on the sliders to understand the type of songs in your collection. Or, start out by choosing one song that matches your mood and let Moodagent figure out the slider settings for you. You can also drop songs from a playlist by swiping them.

Why does a song not profile?
There are several reasons Moodagent may not be able to create a profile of a song. The most common reasons are:
(1) The song is too short — 30 seconds or less
(2) Moodagent thinks the song is a podcast or audiobook
(3) You purchased the song from the iTunes store and it is still DRM protected.

Is there a desktop version of the moodagent app?
Not at the present time. We are considering creating an iTunes Plugin. Let us know if you’d like to be on the advance notification list for updates.

What is syncing?
When Moodagent is syncing, it simply connects to our servers to get high-definition track profiles for your songs. When Moodagent goes to work, it creates information profiles on music tracks that can then be clustered and compared in any number of ways (e.g. by mood, genre, instrument, beat, sound, decade, etc). So every track has a profile and because of that, you are able to create playlists based on moods and other variables.

Can I profile my own music made in, for example, Garage Band or Pro Tools?
Yes, but only with the desktop Moodagent Profiler. Make sure you include artist and title information on every song before running the Profiler.

Will Moodagent compress my music library, making the quality of my music super bad?
No. Moodagent is all about improving your music experience and we do that without impacting the quality of your music.

Is the information in my phone safe when connecting to your servers?
Yes, it is safe with us.

Is there a way to copy my playlists into iTunes?
Not at the present time.

Can I generate a playlist that’s longer than 25 songs?
Not at the present time.

What does “no profile available” mean?
We couldn’t find a profile in the moodagent cloud that matches the song you’ve selected. First, run the Moodagent Profiler. If you still get this message, it is most likely because the version of the song you have is protected by the iTunes DRM and therefore cannot be profiled. Try profiling the song every few weeks, as someone else may profile a non-DRM version of the same song

What does “no internet connection found” mean?
There are 2 possible reasons for seeing this error message. The most likely reason is that our servers are busy and the moodagent app couldn’t connect. Please try again later. The other reason you’d see this error message is that you are not connected to the internet via 3G or Wifi.

Why does the app not recognize the songs even though they have been profiled?
We couldn’t find a profile in the moodagent cloud that matches the song you’ve selected. First, run the Moodagent Profiler. If you still get this message, it is most likely because the version of the song you have is protected by the iTunes DRM and therefore cannot be profiled. Try syncing the song every few weeks, as someone else may profile a non-DRM version of the same song.

Why doesn’t Moodagent sync all my songs?
If Moodagent does not know a song, it will not be synced. But don’t worry, we know more than 8 million songs, and still counting. To teach Moodagent software to create profiles for your unknown songs, you can download the Moodagent Profiler for your desktop PC or MAC.

Do I need to be on the Internet to run Moodagent?
The Moodagent app needs Internet access for syncing your library. Once that is completed you can enjoy the app without connecting to the Internet. Syncing only occurs when you first install Moodagent or when you add new songs to your library.

What does it cost to be on the Internet to run Moodagent?
The cost is determined by your provider and their normal data charges apply. Of course WiFi is free and the fastest way to profile your library.

Can I save the playlists I make?
Yes. Select Save (the + icon) under the sliders, type in a name for the playlist, and click Save.

Where do I find my saved playlists?
Select the Open Playlist icon, under the sliders.

Is there another way of creating playlists, other than moving the sliders?
Yes, you can press the search icon (the magnifier glass) and choose, for example, an artist and then select a song. Moodagent will then generate a playlist for you.

I moved the slider for tempo all the way up, but Moodagent does not return with any fast songs.
Moodagent pulls the songs from your collection that best match your mood settings. Make sure that you have some fast tracks in your collection.

What do the icons mean?
The 5 sliders representÊSensual, Tender, Joy, Aggressive and Tempo. Tips on the sliders are right on your device. Tap on the i icon in the bottom left corner.

What does the Moodagent logo icon do ?
With the logo icon, you can choose a song to be the seed track for your playlist. The seed track will define the moods and flow of your new playlist.

I have added more music to my iPhone, how do I get Moodagent sync my new music?
Tap the sync icon (circular arrow) in the top left corner, and then Moodagent will begin syncing.

Why does the Mac version of the Moodagent Profiler fail in downloading?
It shouldn’t. Our servers may be busy and a timeout occurs. Please try again later. If this persists please contact us.

What is profiling?
When Moodagent goes to work, massive signal processing analysis creates extremely granular ordered information sets on music tracks that can then be clustered or compared in any number of ways (e.g. by mood, genre, instrument, beat, sound, decade, etc). So every track it encounters has a profile, and because of that you are able to create playlists based on a given mood or combination of moods and tempo.
