If you’re one of the lucky 450,000 or so who managed to snag an iPad last weekend, you’re probably still trying out different apps and downloading like crazy. This week, American Idol contestant Lee DeWyze performed Hey Jude. Moodagent shows how — and how much — DeWyze changed the mood of the Beatles hit. In fact, his version more closely matches competing performances by fellow Idol contestants Casey James and Aaron Kelly than the Beatles version of Hey Jude.
The mood profile shows his cover has different settings for 4 of the 5 sliders. DeWyze changed up Hey Jude by adding a huge dose of tenderness (orange). He also dialed down the passion (red), happiness (yellow), and tempo (gray).
As you can see, each version of Hey Jude generates a different playlist from my personal music collection. Casey James’ Jealous Guy places high on only one of the playlists. What playlists do you get?

This week, American Idol contestant Michael Lynche was almost eliminated following his performance of Eleanor Rigby. Moodagent shows that he did alter mood of the Beatles song significantly, despite failing to wow the audience or the judges. The mood profile shows the biggest difference is the amount of passion Lynche expresses. His version is extremely passionate (red), whereas The Beatles version has very little passion. He also pours more happiness (yellow) and anger (purple) into the song.
He matches the standard on tenderness (orange) and tempo (gray).
In the end, the judges “saved” Lynche from elimination, urging him to up his game or risk being voted off again next week.
